Program Description

The Advanced Placement Program consists of college level courses and exams in 19 disciplines designed for highly motivated students in secondary school.  Its exceptional reputation is made possible by the close cooperation of secondary schools, colleges and the College Board.  More than 2,900 universities and colleges worldwide grant credit, advanced placement, or both to students who have performed satisfactorily on the exams, and approximately 1,400 institutions grant sophomore standing to students who have demonstrated their competence in three or more of these exams.  AP students also receive an additional quality point for successful completion of each course.  AP courses are the basics of our Superintendent's Diploma of Distinction.

Admittance Process
Placement into all AP classes is by teacher recommendation.  This is a process which enables both the student and the teacher to assess the potential for success in these highly academic classes.  Test scores, pre-requisite classes, and past performance are also considered.

Recommended scores include a minimum 50 on the verbal and math portions of the PSAT or equivalent SAT scores.  A cumulative GPA of 3.25 is recommended; students should also have earned an A/B average along with the recommendation of the pre-requisite teacher.
